Proposed “By-Laws of Legacy Christian Church” Amendment

Proposed Amendment

Section 2 and Section 3 of Article XII (see below) be replaced in their entirety with the following text:

Section 2 – These by-laws may contain any provision for the regulation and management of the affairs of Legacy Christian Church not inconsistent with law or the Articles of Incorporation. These by-laws may be amended, altered or repealed in any manner, not inconsistent with the Articles of Incorporation or with the laws of the State of Kansas, at any meeting of the Administrative Board of Elders, provided that notice of the proposed change is given in the notice of the meeting.

Section 2 and Section 3 of Article XII

ARTICLE XII – Amendments

Section 1 – Articles III and IV of these by-laws cannot be amended.

Section 2 – These by-laws, except for Articles III and IV, may be amended at any regular General Board meeting by a 3/4 vote of those present, provided such amendment has been presented in writing at a meeting at least a month before the vote is taken.

Section 3 – Amendments (Except for Articles III and IV) shall be presented to the congregation at any regular or special called meeting, provided change has been given at least two weeks prior to said meeting by announcement from the pulpit, in the Sunday bulletin and on the bulletin board in the church building, for their approval by a 2/3 vote of those present and voting.

For the sake of clarity, the above referenced Article III and IV is provided below.

ARTICLE III – Purpose

Section 1 – The purpose of this corporation shall be to establish and maintain a church patterned after the plan set forth in the New Testament — to provide a place of worship for the same, to carry out the program of evangelism as found in the New Testament, to establish and conduct schools of religious instruction, and to do benevolent work.

Section 2 – This congregation is locally autonomous and independent of any and all other churches and of religious organizations which carry the same or similar names that might be registered. It shall govern its own internal affairs in accordance with the New Testament and in accordance with the laws of the State of Kansas.

Section 3 – The Legacy Christian Church of Overland Park, Kansas, acknowledging the deity and absolute authority of Jesus Christ and the inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, is committed to preach the revealed Word and to advance the general growth of Christians at home and away from home.

Section 4 – This congregation adheres to and recognizes the writings of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God, and as such the only unerring guide and standard of Christian faith and practice.

Section 5 – The right to take, manage, hold, and dispose of property, real or personal, shall be held by the corporation as allowed by the nonprofit Corporation laws of the State of Kansas. Upon dissolution of this corporation, or the abandonment of its corporate purposes, none of the corporate property shall inure to the benefit of any private person, but shall be irrevocably dedicated to religious or charitable purposes of some other non-profit organization or organizations that have the same New Testament doctrinal position as this corporation. Exact recipient of such liquidated property shall be determined by those members present at a duly authorized meeting called for said purpose.

ARTICLE IV – Membership

Section 1 – Membership requirements shall be identical with what Christ requires for salvation: a. Hearing God’s Word (Romans 10:17). b. Believing God’s Word (John 20:31). c. Repenting, fully surrendering to God’s Will (Acts 17:30). d. Confessing Christ’s name before men (Matthew 10:32, Romans 10:9). e. Being immersed into the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:3,4). f. Living a righteous and faithful life unto death (Revelation 2:10).

Section 2 – Any person who complies with this plan of salvation is considered a member, and any person who has previously complied with these requirements may unite with this congregation by transfer of membership.

Section 3 – Voting members shall be those who are sixteen years of age or older, and who have faithfully attended worship services held by this congregation during the preceding year.

Legacy By-Laws

The results are in!

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the voting process. We are humbled by the unwavering trust that was demonstrated in the Leadership Team of Legacy Christian Church! The vote on the proposed amendment witnessed an exceptional level of engagement from our congregation, with over 800 votes cast—the highest in Legacy’s voting history. 746 out of 801 voters showed support for the amendment, reflecting a 93% approval rate for updating the by-laws. Thus, as of April 1, 2024, the “By-Laws of Legacy Christian Church” have been amended to reflect the proposed change.

In the coming months, the Administrative Board of Elders will collaborate with teams of professionals to comprehensively update the by-laws. Once this project is final, we are committed to promptly posting the revised by-laws on this webpage. Your continued support and prayers are invaluable as we strive to serve our congregation with integrity and transparency.

Back Snacks

Sign up to serve

Where Compassion Meets Hunger

Welcome to “Back Snacks” where compassion meets hunger in the heart of the Lee’s Summit middle school community. This ministry is dedicated to ensuring that no child goes without enough food over the weekend. Recognizing the challenges some middle school students face, we extend a helping hand by providing snacks to those in need.

We believe that every child deserves the chance to focus on their studies, fun, and family, enjoying childhood without the burden of hunger. Through the kindness of our volunteers and generous supporters, we assemble weekend snack packs filled with treats, ensuring that these students return to school on Monday recharged, ready to learn, and equipped with the energy they need to thrive.

Join us in fostering a community of care and support, as we strive to create a brighter future for every child, one bag of snacks at a time. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these young individuals, empowering them to reach their full potential and build meaningful connection in their families’ hearts and minds with the Lord’s Church.
