Big Idea: To RESIST sadness is to FORFEIT joy.  (Lam. 1:1-22)

How deserted lies the city,
once so full of people! . . .

Bitterly she weeps at night,
tears are on her cheeks.
Among all her lovers
there is no one to comfort her.

Lamentations 1:1-2

The PERMISSION of Lament: 

1. To GRIEVE what happens to us

2. To CONFESS what we do to ourselves

• We resist grief because we treat it like a THREAT instead of a TEACHER.

• Jesus was a man of SORROWS.   (Matt. 5:4; Luke 19:41-42)

He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;
like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

Isaiah 53:3

Takeaway: Don’t RUSH your sadness; let it lead you HOME.
