26 Jul Special Needs Ministry
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them.” The special needs ministry offers several programs to make sure the good news of Jesus Christ is available for everyone.
A special buddy is a dedicated volunteer matched one-on-one with a person who has special needs. This enables parents or caregivers to join in worship services, while their children are supported in age-appropriate classes. A team of 2 to 4 special buddies is assigned to the child in alternating weeks, encouraging familiarity and consistency for the child, while allowing flexibility for the buddies. Using information the parents provide, the ministry coordinator carefully matches the child with a team of buddies and equips them with information specific to the child’s diagnosis and unique needs. Special Buddies are available during worship services at all campuses.
Parent’s Night Out (PNO):
PNO at the Overland Park, Olathe & Blue Valley Campuses meet from 5:30-8:30 pm the first Saturday of each month (unless the 1st Saturday falls on a holiday). Parents can drop off their special needs children for a fun evening of 1-on-1 care. Specially trained volunteers will guide the children through fun activities, crafts, snacks and building new friendships. Parents Night Out enables the parents to go to church, go to dinner, spend time with friends or whatever they need most while their children are cared for and loved in a fun environment.
The Friendship Class:
A special needs Bible class meets on Saturdays, during the 6 pm worship service at the Overland Park Campus (except when PNO is scheduled). It is for kids ages: 12 and up to learn about God on their own level, with visually stimulating lessons and activities.
